...STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM TO IMPACT SOUTHCENTRAL ALASKA AND NEARBY
MARINE AREAS LATE TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT...
A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL PUSH COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF MOISTURE
ACROSS SOUTHCENTRAL BEGINNING LATE TONIGHT AND LASTING THROUGH FRIDAY
NIGHT. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO EXPECTED TO IMPACT PARTS OF SOUTHCENTRAL
ALASKA AND MARINE AREAS ALONG THE NORTHERN GULF COAST AND PRINCE
WILLIAM SOUND.
THE FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF SOME OF THE NOTABLE EXPECTED IMPACTS BY LOCATION:
* PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND REGION INCLUDING VALDEZ AND CORDOVA:
RAIN DEVELOPS LATE TONIGHT... BECOMING VERY HEAVY AT TIMES LATE FRIDAY
MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON... WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR 2 TO 5
INCHES AT LOWER ELEVATIONS AND 5 TO 10 INCHES AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS.
THERE IS AN INCREASED POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING... ESPECIALLY ALONG THE
ALREADY SWOLLEN STREAMS AND RIVERS NEAR VALDEZ AND CORDOVA. STRONG
SOUTHEAST WINDS GUSTING 50 TO 60 MPH ARE POSSIBLE NEAR CORDOVA.
* ANCHORAGE... MATANUSKA VALLEY... AND THE WESTERN KENAI PENINSULA:
RAIN DEVELOPS EARLY FRIDAY MORNING... BECOMING LOCALLY HEAVY AT TIMES
THROUGH MIDDAY. ONE-QUARTER TO ONE-HALF INCH OF RAIN IS POSSIBLE AT
LOWER ELEVATIONS... WITH AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 3 INCHES POSSIBLE IN THE
CHUGACH RANGE EAST OF TOWN WHICH COULD CONTRIBUTE TO MINOR FLOODING IN
TOWN... ESPECIALLY ALONG CHESTER CREEK. STRONG WINDS BEGIN TO MIX DOWN
TO THE SURFACE FROM ALOFT DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS.
A 3 TO 5 HOUR WINDOW WITH OCCASIONAL WIND GUSTS OF 35 TO 50 MPH ARE
POSSIBLE AT THIS TIME OVER HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF ANCHORAGE AND NEAR
CHANNELED TERRAIN SUCH AS THE EAGLE RIVER AND KNIK VALLEYS.
* NORTHERN GULF MARINE AREAS:
STRONG SOUTH TO SOUTHEAST SUSTAINED WINDS OF GALE FORCE WITH STRONGER
STORM FORCE GUSTS ARE POSSIBLE FROM THE WEST CENTRAL GULF NORTH TO
PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH LATE FRIDAY NIGHT. THESE
WINDS WILL LIKELY EXTEND TO THE VALDEZ ARM AND TO THE ENTRANCE TO
PASSAGE CANAL.
* SUSITNA VALLEY:
RAIN DEVELOPING EARLY FRIDAY MORNING... BECOMING HEAVY DURING THE DAY
BEFORE DIMINISHING TOWARD EVENING. RAINFALL RATES OF ONE-HALF TO 2
INCHES WITH HIGHER AMOUNTS OVER THE MOUNTAINS MAY CONTRIBUTE TO
LOCALIZED FLOODING ALONG TRIBUTARIES OF THE SUSITNA RIVER.
