(CNN)European investigators who analyzed the two flight recorders from the Metrojet plane that went down last weekend in Egypt are categorically saying the crash is not an accident, CNN affiliate France 2 reported Friday.

The investigators said the cockpit voice recorder of Metrojet Flight 9268shows an explosion and the flight data recorder confirms the explosion is not accidental -- there is no sign of mechanical malfunction during the initial part of the flight, France 2 reported.

Metrojet, legally incorporated asKogalymavia (Russian: ООО «Авиакомпания Когалымавиа»), is a Russian airline based in Kogalym,Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.[2] Its home base is Kogalym International Airport, with the main hub beingDomodedovo International Airport inMoscow.[3] The airline has scaled back its operations following the crash of flight 7K9268 on 31 October 2015.

History

Kogalymavia started operations in May 1993. Since 2005 the airline flew mostly international charter services to leisure destinations under the brand nameKolavia.

In May 2012, Kogalymavia changed its marketing branding from Kolavia toMetrojet[4][5] as part of their then newly established joint-venture with TUI Russia & CIS, a subsidiary of German tourism company TUI Travel.[6] Up until August 2014, when the joint-venture was broken up,[6] Metrojet operated on behalf of TUI[7][8] and has flown independently since.

On 31 October 2015, Metrojet charter flight 7K9268 crashed in Egypt, killing all 224 people on board. This accident led the airline to suspend all flight operations until further notice.
